Initial consultation
I’ll meet you at your home to talk through what you would like and get to know both you and your garden and share some early ideas about the kind of garden we will create.
Proposal
You’ll receive a letter and an email outlining what we’ve talked through and setting out how much each stage is likely to cost, how long it will potentially take and how my fees are broken down.
Site survey
If you are happy with the proposal, I’ll visit you again to take a detailed survey of your garden. At this stage I’ll analyse the soil, the moisture levels, the aspect, take lots of photographs, work out access and drainage and talk to you in more detail about what you would like your new garden to achieve. I’ll also carry out a detailed survey of all 3 dimensions of the garden which I can use to create a scale plan.
Masterplan Design
Using design principles of unity, balance, harmony and functionality I will create an overview of how the garden could be laid out. I’ll discuss this with you in detail and work with you to ensure you approve the overall plan, then I will send you a pdf of a scale plan I have created.
Planting design
Once we have a basic layout we are both pleased with, I will analyse each potential border and create a planting design which delivers what you want, whether a low maintenance garden, year round colour or somewhere you can garden every day. There are as many possibilities as there are plants.
Build
After the design and plant combinations are approved, hard landscaping, lighting and water specialists will be contracted to build your new garden. We work with the same contractors on each project so we are part of a close team and deliver the same high standards.
Planting
Specialist nurseries will deliver their plants to the site and I will plant them in your newly prepared beds. This is when the garden really starts to take shape and is the first step in your garden’s establishment, which takes time.
Maintenance
I can create a detailed maintenance schedule which you, your local gardener or I can follow to ensure your new garden is cared for appropriately. I am confident in the plants I specify and the people who grow them: if you follow my maintenance advice or ask me to maintain the garden, every plant will thrive.
Consultation
I want you to enjoy your garden and for it to give you pleasure. I will visit you a year after your garden is completed to see how you and your plants are getting on, help you with anything you would like advice about and ensure your garden is the place you want it to be.
